A personal document safe: passports, contracts, medical papers and deadlines in one place that answers “where is it” and “when does it expire”.
What it is
State apps like Ukraine’s Diia solve a simple and important problem: documents to hand, deadlines not missed. But they live only in their own country and only for its paperwork. This is the same thing, self-hosted and for one person: passports and residence permits, tenancy agreements, insurance, medical records, expiry dates — and an answer to the two questions the whole thing exists for: where is it, and when does it run out.
Everything is stored on the person’s own device. Exactly one door opens outwards — synchronisation between their own devices — and it is locked with a key the device holds, not the server. There is a separate way out for the day this safe stops existing: an export of the data as files, a spreadsheet, a printable book about yourself, and the scans under human-readable names. A store you cannot leave is not a safe, it is a trap.
Specifications: a Flutter application, an SQLite database on the device, a synchronisation server behind Caddy, and a sync key bound to the device. The screenshot on the showcase was taken on an empty safe: not one real document goes out.
